Silver Streak's been to the bike doctor. It's amazing how light he is without all the add-ons. By himself, he's about 36 pounds, but with all the packs (filled), water bottles and packed trailer, it will jump to about 115 pounds. You can see the difference when you compare this picture with those at the right.
Having 28,000+ miles on him, he was due for some important replacements. We took him into our favorite shop, The Gear Wizard (formerly The Bike Peddler) in Bozeman, and he got new bottom brackets, two new chain rings, new chains all around (tandems need three chains), and a new shift cable. After further inspection, there will be a return visit to the doctor to replace the rear cassette and both wheelsets. Probably new brake pads, too. Just before we leave we'll put on the new tires and we should be good to go!
We're thankful to have a trusted bike shop to help us with these necessary fixes.
