Lady and gentleman, start your legs! Let the hills begin!
I'm glad we had seven miles to warm up before this..
We were able to start a little later because it was a shorter distance. But, we didn't want to wait too long as we knew it was going to get hot. So, at 8:00 we rolled out of town down the flat road toward....oh, you already know what I'm going to say.
I think it was after the second climb that I looked over to the right and gazed longingly at the flatness of the river valley.
Oh, why couldn't there be ride-able roads down there?
On one of the downhills, a semi pulling two trailers (I'm sure there's a name for those.) FLEW by us, hugging the white line. His draft pushed us away then sucked us back, way more than just a one-trailer truck. Wow, it would've been nice if he had pulled over to the other lane. (We've had several of those guys that just want to "buzz" us to scare us.)
We rode by him and his "friend" several miles down the road. Sometimes, there IS "justice". ;o)
We stopped for a break and Gerry looked down. Now, how in the world did a baseball get here, right by mile marker 102, out in the middle of nowhere?
Speaking of weird things on the side of the road, some of the more unexpected things I've seen are a double kitchen sink, a twin mattress, dozens of purple latex gloves along three quarters of a mile, and some cookie cutters.
A couple minutes later, Gerry glanced down at Bob...
Sigh. Three flats in three days. The price we pay for riding the interstate with all the retread wires from blown truck tires. Gerry pulled out two. Maybe we should pick up a case of tubes and patch kits in Billings tomorrow.
Gerry is getting very good at fixing flats.
All in all, though, it was a good day. Eight climbs and five smaller hills didn't do us in.
We've been able to rest this afternoon so are going to push through the 105 miles tomorrow. We really don't have any other option as there's no place to stay between here and there. We plan to start by 6:00 in order to get most of the way there before the heat kicks in. The breezes are supposed to be NE and north, another plus.
Thank you for your prayer for my shin. Though it is still swollen and quite sore, the pain while riding today was much less than yesterday. I'm trusting that God will bless me with that again tomorrow.
Have a blessed Lord's day tomorrow!
Pat
