Well, we managed to get another "all-nighter" room next to us again. We were awakened about 3:00 by a big bang of someone slamming the door. Then there were voices and more banging. I thought for a while that the woman was getting beat up. This time we prayed right away. But it didn’t quiet down for probably an hour, so we’re a bit tired again this morning.
We left for the park at 9:20. When we got about a block from the causeway going out, a man told us that we can’t walk across it, that the cops will stop us. Hmmmm, now what to do? That’s easy – just ask someone for a ride across. So we did. Rob and Jennifer and their son, Jake, gave us a lift and dropped us at the entrance right by Millenium Force.
We headed straight for Maverick, which was the new coaster last year. The line was marked as 1 ½ hours long, but we were on in an hour and ten minutes. Now, THAT was some ride! We got the front car. After the first climb up, the drop was 95 degrees! Then there were swoops, 180’s and I can’t remember what else. It was only 1 ½-2 minutes, but it was long enough.

Then we went to the Millenium Force. When we were making the climb up, all I could think was, “Why am I here? I don’t think I want to do this.” Like I had a choice at that point. The first time we rode this ride several years ago, I almost blacked out on the second drop. (The first drop is 300'.) This time I closed my eyes and I think it helped.
The third ride we did was the Power Tower. I don’t know why I do that to myself. I don’t like looking down from heights and here we were, just sitting 100+ feet up there waiting to drop.
The MaxAir did us in for the day, as far as extreme rides go. It’s a pendulum with a ring at the bottom that spins. This one had me screaming, “That’s enough! Stop! That’s enough!” (No one listened to me!)I didn’t like the feeling of being thrown to the outside against the restraint. Most of the other rides force you back against the seat.
We decided to ride the Cedar Creek Mine ride, a very tame, old roller coaster. It was fine until the very last loop, which was one loop too many. This was a good time to take in the Snoopy on Ice show in a cool arena. We were impressed with the costuming and talent of the skaters.
We got on the Skyrider gondola to ride back to the other end of the park to start back to the motel.
Out in the parking lot, Jason and Natalie, a young college couple, were glad to give us a ride back across the causeway. From there, we walked the rest of the way, about a mile.
We were both hot, pretty tired and getting hungry by the time we got back at 7:30.
The office was closed so we couldn’t get ice and our room hadn’t been touched (Surprise.). Gerry made dinner and finally was able to get some ice when the guy got back. He said he was sorry that he didn’t get to our room today; he’d lost his wallet and it wasn’t a very good day.
Well, we are conceding that we have finally reached the max tolerance point of extreme roller coastering in our life. It seems that the extreme rides are most likely a thing of the past now. That makes me kind of sad because I’ve wanted to go to a park with Josh and Jason sometime. And I won’t be able to do this with grandchildren, but I'll have a blast on the kiddie and medium rides!
Still getting our bearings,
Gerry and Pat
