Before we left, Gerry was talking outside with the owner and she said that it would be advisable to make reservations for tonight because it's Friday. So he called a motel which is listed on the AC map. Their rate was higher than we’d like to pay, but we thought we’d better hold a room anyway. If we see something cheaper, we can call to cancel.

We left at 8:45, stopped at a Dollar General up the road to pick up food, then took off at 9:00. We rode hwy 20 all the way into Conneaut instead of going back up to the lake.

At Conneaut, we saw a sign for the library which was just one block off the road. So we stopped in again to update since it was only 9:30 and there were few people at the computers.

There were a couple gals at computers and I saw that one of them had an AC map in front of her. I said, “That looks familiar.” They were riding the Underground Railroad route.

I finished the update, Gerry checked Warmshowers again, then we went out. A lady came out behind us said, “I saw your shirts and I read your blog.” We talked with her for a few minutes.

When I saw a fruit and produce stand by the road, my mouth started salivating so we stopped and bought an apple for tomorrow and two plums that we ate right away. Just as we were leaving, the two gals from the library rode by.

We followed hwy 5 through Lake City to Erie. A stop at Subway for lunch and ice for the Camelbak, then we made our way through town on Alt. 5. We rode right by the park where the Harley rally is starting for the weekend. Thankfully, this was early afternoon and the party wasn’t going full bore yet. We rode through a couple neighborhoods that were, mmmmm, less than middle class. It was interesting that within a quarter mile of these, the homes changed to upper middle class.

Out of Erie, we rode by miles and miles of vineyards. It was cool to look to the south and see all those vineyards and high hills in the distance.
And to the north were vineyards and the lake. We also saw the biggest tree farms we’ve ever seen: miles of different trees of all different sizes. We also rode by a pear orchard.

The landscape is starting to change, giving us a preview of what’s to come through New England – hills. We’ve dropped down to some rivers and had to climb back out and, truthfully, it hasn’t been very much fun. I think a lot of it has to do with it being so hot and being toward the end of the day.

When we made the turn off at hwy 89 to North East, we had to climb a hill.(We also reached 2800 miles here.) We ended up at the Red Carpet Inn, the motel we had made a reservation with, because the others were much more expensive. It ended up being a dive, but it had air conditioning and that was crucial for this hot, humid day. We’ve decided that we need to get up and start riding earlier in the morning before the heat takes hold. It’s been way too hot to be riding as late as we have.

I liked this church in North East.

I haven’t mentioned this before because I wanted to wait to see how far and long this would go on. I was contemplating subtitling this trip “Where Are America’s Children?” Over this entire trip, I’ve watched for children playing outside during the day. Yesterday was the first time – in Euclid, OH, just west of Cleveland. I’m absolutely serious. We have ridden every day of the week, from early morning to early evening, and it wasn’t until Euclid that we saw kids outside playing.

My favorite name for today is “Whippy Dip” (soft serve ice cream).

In Him, (Ephesians 1-2)
