Day 12. Seminole, OK to Stroud, OK

40 miles
2:50 ST
14.0 avg

The lightning woke us up at 2:45 this morning, then the thunder started, and the rain. It continued for a couple hours but we just turned over and tried to sleep. We realized that we weren't going to be on the road very early, if at all, today.

Check the weather channel, pray, get up, check the weather channel, pray, get dressed, check the weather channel, pray, eat, check the weather channel, pray.... you get the idea.

Even though it was raining, there was no lightning, so we decided to go for it.
The first 8 or 9 miles were soggy ones but it wasn't bad. Because it was hilly, we warmed up quickly. We stopped for a break and took off our jacket sleeves. I'm not sure what changed then (besides the rain letting up), but we lost our granny gear after that. Not fun on the hills.

We stopped every 10 miles to give our knees a break and Gerry tried a couple times to adjust the derailleur to get our small ring back. Nope, wasn't happening out here. We just pushed through.

Riding through Prague, we went by the "National Monument for Infant Jesus". Hmm, who knew.

About three miles out from Stroud, the rain hit again. Horizontal and straight into our faces. Being in the front, Gerry takes the brunt of this sort of thing. If we weren't wet before, we sure were now!

At the edge of town a car was coming up to the stop sign on our right as we were passing by. I don't know what he was doing, but he WASN'T stopping. He saw us just before he almost took out Bob, stopping about a foot before hitting him. I'm not sure that my shout stopped him, but it made me feel better.

This is a little of what I have to clean off the bike after a day like today.

Silver Streak makes a good clothesline when necessary.

After I got the bike cleaned, Gerry worked on the shifting issue and we think it's fixed. Guess we'll find out later.

We clearly saw God working today: no thunderstorms with lightning which were forecast, strength to take the hills, protection from being hit.

Tomorrow..... day off. We're staying here in Stroud to rest up for a day after five days of riding. Tomorrow's post will be short, with some observations thus far on Oklahoma.

Today's favorite name:  Thakiwaki Road

Praising Him,
