Day 7 Day Off in Texarkana,TX

Yesterday was an interesting entry into town as we rode by several miles of these sort of properties.

But then there was this delightful little place!

While waiting for the bike shop to open this morning, we walked over to Wal-Mart to pick up some food for the next couple days. Gerry almost stepped on this.
CREEPY! Thankfully, it was dead.

We talked with our bike guy in Bozeman this morning and he was very surprised to hear that we broke a spoke, with less than 500 miles on these wheels.

Silver Streak looks quite incapacitated and humbled without his back wheel.
There are two bike shops in Texarkana and one of them also does motorbikes and scooters. Uhhh, we'll pass on that one. The "real" bike shop is 6 miles from where we're staying - a little bit too far to walk- so we called a taxi.

Terry and Charles at Berridge Bikes were gracious enough to drop what they were doing and go right to work on our wheel. In addition to their good work, we got to enjoy fun and informative conversation about cycle touring, differences in areas of the country, and other bicycle-related topics. Terry also assured us that the route we're thinking about taking tomorrow is a good choice.
Thanks, guys, you're great!

I don't think I mentioned that we also rode in yesterday on a slow leak on the rear. Yup, I pulled another wire from the tire this morning. THAT'S the downside of riding the shoulders, they collect all the garbage when truck tires blow.

Gerry, checking our route for tomorrow.

We'll rest for the remainder of the day and prepare to leave very early in the morning before the heat hits full force.

Leaving Texas and heading to Arkansas and Oklahoma,
P@
